The main location the volunteers and our team are helping is a small village called Mayobyo Busujju in the Mityana District of Uganda, Africa. Uganda itself is toward the east side of Africa and borders the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Tanzania, Kenya, and Rwanda. The bulk of the country constitutes a plateau, at 4,000 feet above sea level. Lake Victoria covers a majority of the southern part of the country. While predominantly Christian, Uganda has many cultures residing within its borders, and several African languages are spoken.
The Mityana District is bordered by Kiboga District to the north, Nakaseke District to the northeast, Wakiso District to the east, Mubende District to the west, Mpigi District to the southeast, and Butambala and Gomba Districts to the south. The closest airport in Uganda is Entebbe International Airport at a distance of 25 mi (or 40 km), South-East. There is a Unesco world heritage site nearby - its Tombs of Buganda Kings at Kasubi at a distance of 27 mi (or 44 km), East. Depending on your travel schedule, you may want to pay a visit to some of the following locations: Gombe, Mpigi, Mityana, Kanoni, and Wakiso.
Agriculture is the main income-earning activity in the Mityana District. The crops grown here include sweet potatoes, beans, cassava, maize, bananas, groundnuts, onions, cabbage, and tomatoes. Cash crops grown in the district include coffee and tea.
